AI Policy

Some designers have been incorporating AI tools (like Midjourney or OpenAI) into their creative workflows. I’d like to advise you of the policy on AI use at Hello Lovely Design and Co.

The ethical preference is to use AI mindfully and with care since it has a carbon footprint. AI may be used as an administration tool, to generate prompts or checks from time to time, but it is not used in the creation of illustrations or images at this point. If that was to change, then I promise to:

1. Be transparent about any AI use

Clearly inform the client in your offer or messages and explain in what parts, if any, AI will be involved (e.g. concepts, early drafts, image editing) vs. what you will create yourself.

2. Get written approval

Clients must give their written consent before the project starts. A simple confirmation by email is enough to meet this requirement.

3. Deliver original and licensable work

According to UK Copyright law, images generated exclusively by AI are not eligible for copyright protection. That means any AI-generated elements must be sufficiently modified or recreated to ensure the final result is copyrightable and legally exploitable by the client.

I advocate for original artistry and craft, and will always recommend that people use people for a unique and accurate creation. That’s what sets Hello Lovely Design and Co apart. I always recommend limiting AI use to early concept development and ensuring that the final design looks clearly distinct from any AI-generated material.

As always, I’m just an email away if you have questions.
